The Root of Our Energy Problems July 1, 2008 By David RobinsonA recent Op-Ed piece by Thomas Friedman (excerpt below) expressed clearly what motivates my candidacy: the failure of our current leadership to successfully address the long-term problems confronting our country, thereby putting our prosperity and security at risk. Instead of bold and big thinking, and acting together for the good of the whole country, our politicians too often offer only excuses in the form of sound-bites and spin (e.g., the “Tiberi Two-Step”), and timid “answers” to problems that only dance around the real issue. They protect themselves while endangering our nation.

Clinton endorses Obama, calls for party unity - CNN.comJune 7, 2008 Robinson's Comments:"Now that the presidential nominating process has come to a close, I think it would be good if we paused and reflected for just a moment about the significance of what has just happened and how this sends a message not only to every American, young and old, but to the whole world, that the American Dream is alive and very well. We have seen through this contest, which could easily have gone either way, that in America no matter your gender or your race, that with talent and hard-work there are no limits to what you may seek and achieve.

The Cost of Doing Nothing
June 4th, 2008 Fairwell, Fair Weather
New York Times Article Robinson's comments:The winds of change, literally, are blowing around the world. This means great opportunities for both profitable and responsible action. The White House has just released a report (four years late, and under court order) that confirms what our nation's scientists have long been telling us: that disruptive climate change is happening, it's caused mostly by humans, and that it will be very destructive unless we act boldly, now. While this represents something like a deathbed conversion for Bush (and his allies in Congress), it indicates that action this week in the Senate on the Climate Security Act (Lieberman-Warner bill) is more likely. When eventually passed by the House, and signed by the (next) President, the Green Industrial Revolution will shift in to the next gear. We'll be on our way. So I fully support passage of this bill as a critical first-step to achieve the goals I outlined in my Apollo II Energy Initiative.

Robinson Memorial Day Statement May 22, 2008 This Memorial Day holiday will find many of us surrounded by loved ones at parades, picnics and long vacation weekends. As we travel to these celebrations and welcome the long-awaited start to summer, let us honor first and foremost those for whom this holiday was meant to cherish -- the brave men and women who have gone before us for the sake of freedom.
I join my fellow citizens in remembering the valiant bravery of the people who have given their lives so that we may live in freedom. Let us also honor the thousands of men and women who served alongside these patriots who survived the perils of war and those who still wait in support from home. And finally, lest we forget, we must do all we can to recognize their stewardship of freedom by keeping our commitments to them as veterans.

Citizens Deserve Return on Their Vote Letter the the Editor, The Columbus Dispatch April 30, 2008 www.dispatch.com
The
business of government is becoming more business-like. As consumers of
government, voters need to feel like we have a return on our vote. It
is not enough to perpetuate a system whereby the only return a voter
receives is the supposed satisfaction of performing one's civic duty.
Why
shouldn't we demand more? Our congressmen are not superior to us;
rather, they are subordinate to us. We are the employers of Congress.
If our representatives excel, if they hold themselves and their offices
to a high standard, then we extend their contract through re-election.
However, if we find that our representatives are unresponsive,
unproductive or simply ineffective, we fire them.

A Closer Look at the 12th District Race (The following was published in the March 28th Newark Advocate,
urging voters to learn more about both candidates in the 12th District
Congressional Race. It was written by David Lore, a Licking County
resident and co-founder of LICOPAC.)
"Licking County will be
critical in the 12th District congressional race this year, but it
seems we know little about either candidate -- even though one is an
incumbent.
David Robinson of Columbus emerged from the March 4
primary as the Democratic challenger to Republican incumbent Patrick
Tiberi, a Delaware County resident serving his fourth term.

The Iraq War: Lessons Learned and Unlearned
David Robinson March 19, 2008 (5th Anniv. of Iraq War) Thank You. It is good and it is right that today, here in our state’s capital, on the fifth anniversary of our nation’s launching of the Iraq War, we are giving voice and visible testimony to both our grief about the war and our hope about the prospects for peace. By giving voice and witness to our beliefs we are declaring our determined opposition to the endless stay-the-course-and-we-can-win policies of the current administration...

Partisanship is our biggest obstacle Letter to the Editor, The Columbus DispatchMarch 1, 2008 www.dispatch.comThe Wednesday letter to the editor "Democrat Robinson is new to the party" expressed distrust about my political motives because my politically conservative sister hosted a campaign party for me, her Democratic brother. I find this attitude regrettable and a symptom of how we need to heal destructive partisan divisions in our nation.
